Wheeeeeeeeee Hotrods
Today I started to work on the most recent hotrod to grace my shop. Some of you may have seen this particular truck before. It is the Chevy S10 that my brother-in-law originally built as his high school ride. It is a red extend-a-cab that is lowered front and back with a roll pan at the rear! It has duel exhaust with chrome tips. It has a warmish 350 Chevy with a 200-r-4 tranny. Its kinda groovy. It has some cool features. It’s an extend a cab so I fit (for all the angry skinny people out there, that’s not a given!) it is already lowered, so I don’t hafta. (its hard work and i am a lazy bum so I don’t want to do it) it has already existed in its current form for 15 years so we know the combo works. It has brand-new tires so I don’t have to buy them! It has a cd player and used to be a stereo truck (it might be again. I don’t know yet) it has big dirty power! (best for last) and its got big stinky power! Now for the bad. Woooooooo electrical problems,(no problem its my specialty) busted drivers seat($15 at a wreakers), no return spring on the seatbelt($3 at a wreckers), leaky gas tank (aprox $10 a wreckers), oil leak(new gasket), chronic overheating (new fan already bought) and a bad sending unit for the gas gauge (comes with the gas. tank) this is a new toy to keep me occupied. This is how the story of getting the truck home goes. Last night I had to get the truck started. It had lotsa battery power and lots of gas (an electric fuel pump makes it a no braner to start) but when you turn the key, nothing! No dice. So we check the wiring. Everything looks bad but it still should work. All fuses good, but when you turn the key, Zippo. Never mind that, i am a smart guy so I just wire past the switch and it starts right up. This is cool cuz it hasn’t run in 2 years. It started instantly. Rad! Then I put it in gear and we have no problem. Righteous! Shut it off and go home. Today hotwire it and drive it home! It now is at the garage and is causing a problem. The front goes over the bump into the garage but the frame hits and lifts the back tires up into the air. They spin good that way. So I jack up the back of the truck and stuff wood under the tires and it backs up. Then give her shizzy and ram it into the garage (I need to fix that) now i am in the garage and the truck wont shut off. This shouldn’t be a problem but the truck is doing something called dieseling. This means that the engine runs backwards. So when it is in drive the truck goes backwards and when its in reveres it goes forward. This causes many different problems but the big one is that it wont stop. Fine. Whatever. It finally stops, then the rad explodes and boils over for about 20 minutes. It is now sitting on a bed of floor dry with no hood, no seat no steering column, no radio, no wiring and no battery or coolant. I am in such a good good great mood. Wheeeeeeeee Hotrods!
